Radio Listeners and Resolutions

Author: Annette Malave, SVP/Insights, RAB

As the new year enters, many adults make resolutions or plans. Some of those resolutions involve the denial of a product or its reduced consumption.

Other resolutions may revolve around a person’s home and environment. (How many times have you resolved to be more organized in the new year?) An online search on home update resolutions will generate thousands of results with suggestions. Resolutions are also opportunities for businesses.

Once the holidays are over, many adults will look at their home and make decisions about changes. Some may make changes in décor, as in household linens, while others may do more. (Trivia – “White sales” originated as a marketing strategy by a Philadelphia department store owner, John Wanamaker, to boost post-holiday sales by promoting household linens, predominantly bed linens which were only available in white at the time.)

Radio listener intentions vary from small to grand in 2025. According to MRI-Simmons Q4 2024 Trending Topics survey, 21% of radio listening adults resolutions for 2025 is to get organized. In a home, that can be an opportunity for home storage solutions, closet organizers or cabinet makers. These radio listeners are also seeking upgrades to their current household appliance with 21% planning to purchase a large or major household appliance and 18% looking to make a major furniture purchase.

These resolutions or intentions are not just limited to these types of purchases but greater changes within their homes. Eleven percent of radio listeners plan on remodeling their kitchen within the year, while another 13% plan on remodeling a bathroom. Businesses focused on offering services and goods in these areas would benefit by using radio to reach some of the prospective customers as well as future ones. Radio listeners are 4% more likely than nonlisteners to purchase their first home in 2025.

Resolutions aren’t just for consumers, they are also for business owners. Businesses who are interested in growing their business in 2025 should also make a resolution to include radio as part of their marketing plans.
